Kids Teepee

This collapsible teepee was inspired by Elsa's ice castle. I made it for our friend, Little Miss Harley, who has every Frozen toy ever made.  I decided to create a venue for her to let it go.  We could hardly get Hope  out of it so I could wrap it....... yes, this thing was wrapped.

Ariel Costume

In true "me" form I needed to incorporate my favorite little girl accessory, the tutu, into Hope's Halloween costume.  We had been wedding dress shopping with Andy's sister several months before and I drew inspiration from the "mermaid cut" dresses I saw at the bridal shop.  I went for an little Mermaid meets Splash look ( I love you, Tom Hanks!!!) and I wanted her to look a bit ship wrecked.  I took a white tank top, tie dyed it purple, used some lace across the neckline.   I painted shells and glued them on as much of the costume as I could.  I knew there was no way she would let me spray her hair with that Halloween Hair color and we live in Texas....it was October...putting her in a sweaty wig would be mean, so I came up with a flowy-feathery barrette using boa material and the painted shells.

....So obviously I had to be Ursula.....

Vintage Fabric Pillows and Ottoman

I had been holding on to these 1960's drapes I purchased at an antique store in LBC for over three years....just waiting to make them into something utterly fabulous. It never occurred to me to turn them into throw pillows for my drab chocolate brown couch ( which, by the way, EVERY color goes with) until I was forced to dive into my fabric supply for something with which I could liven up my neutral living room. I typically don't do "matchy, matchy" , but I loved the look so much that I made several pillows and even had enough left to applique an ottoman I had made from an old coffee table.

After three months of making almost every decoration for this Yo Gabba Gabba themed party for my little pollywog we were able to celebrate with almost no hiccups....almost...

Laundry Room Project

Why do I pay so much attention to all the other rooms in my house, and leave the room that I spend a great deal of time in (boo) sad and bare?  After the Marine Corps we have been left with several sea bags....along with 3 moving boxes full of digital camouflage.  I love everything about these bags: the color, the material and the metal hardware. I have been trying to find a home for them for several years now and finally found an ironic purpose for them in the civilian world.

I got super brave and painted chevrons around the room. I wanted to do floor to ceiling chevrons, but after only two Andy said it made him dizzy when he walked in there and, "Please don't paint anymore". I would have dismissed his opinion because he RARELY spends time doing laundry, but it is the garage entrance as well so I obliged.

Telma's Luau Birthday Celebration

 Aloha Cupcakes
I like using items around the house as cupcake risers. The pineapple juice and pineapple stems were to be thrown in the trash until I repurposed them.

I had originally wanted to use a red and white hibiscus flower print fabric to make the sarongs. When I went to the fabric store, however, I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of tropical prints available. I was worried that the print I chose for the baby sarong was a bit mature for a 1 year old, but it turned out super cute.
